StaffGraphic2007: KEEP Cambria staff 2007

Back Row: Cubby, Bunny, Luna, Pickleweed, Cicada, and Buffalo
Front Row: Woolly Mammoth, Ocean, The Big Cheese, Oak, and Lightning Bug

  • John F. "The Big Cheese" is our intrepid leader. He focuses on the Big Picture here at KEEP Cambria. He can find any answer and solve any problem, so he says. He has an Economics degree from UCLA and received his teaching credential from Chapman College. John spends his free time playing with the band, camping and fishing with his sons, and bragging about his new grandson.

  • John S. "Buffalo" has done graduate work on Elephant Seal Biology at UCSC and on the Farallon Islands. He can tell you virtually anything about them! He has coordinated various marine science programs around the state and has interests in ocean sports and wildlife photography. His focus here is in marine mammals.

  • Paul "Bunny" is our Head Cook and treats us daily to his fantastic cooking and good humor.

  • Brian "Woolly Mammoth" attended El Camino college and completed a Hotel and Restaurant course at UCLA. He has been a local resident for 8 years and used to run a deli in Cambria. In his spare time he loves to hike, fish and comb the beach for treasures. He is also a history buff and uses Ebay to buy and sell antiques.

  • "Cubby" attended Otterbein College in Ohio. He has degrees in Psychology, Sports & Wellness Management, and Physical Education and has minors in Health and Coaching. He is a man of many pursuits, but his favorite job was biking across the country with teenagers. He is a competitive biker and runner and enjoys wildlife photography.

  • Ed "Oak" graduated from University of Wales, Aberystwyth with a degree in Geography. He completed a yearlong  college internship at SCICON (Tulare County's outdoor education program), and never looked back. Since then he has worked at both KEEP sites and several summer camps, in addition to driving a school bus for the local school district and working as a kayak guide in Morro Bay.

  • Amber "Ocean" went to San Francisco State and earned a degree in Recreation Therapy and earned her teaching credential through the Cal State Teach program. She spends her time playing games, learning to play her ukulele, singing in the shower, and hiking. Her expertise is in estuaries and their inhabitants.

  • Katie "Cicada" is from Decatur, GA, a suburb of Atlanta. She attended Swarthmore College in Philadelphia, where she studied biology. After a year raising caterpillars and tomatoes in a lab, she sought work with fewer dead insects. An internship at SCICON Outdoor School showed her that outdoor education might not meet that goal, but sure is fun.
