Raptor Count

Each data point represents an average number of raptor sightings between 2000 and 2003. During the winter mating season, pairs of birds and their offspring are commonly seen. In the spring, as eggs are laid and the young cared for, one bird will remain with the nest while the other hunts. We only see the hunter, thus our sightings are cut in half.
Students often see Red-Tailed Hawks, Red-Shouldered Hawks, White-Shouldered Kites, Northern Harriers, American Kestrels, and Peregrine Falcons. With increasing frequency, we are spotting Golden Eagles, Osprey, and Bald Eagles.
