Facilities
Montana de Oro State Park is the perfect setting for the Kern
Environmental Education Program's Ocean campus. The site is
minutes away from the rocky shore, sand dunes, riparian habitat, a
sandy beach, and several miles from the estuary in Morro Bay.
This area is rich with animal and plant diversity...it's environmental exploration at its finest.
The most notable aspect of the KEEP Ocean campus is the multi-purpose Geodesic
Dome, complete with
numerous displays, a marine invertebrate touch tank, and a native
reptile and
amphibian condo. The Discovery Zone houses aquaria, animal
specimens, fieldguides, research games, microscopes, and other
interesting collections. A large open lawn area with frisbee
golf, basketball, ping pong, and volleyball divides the girls and boys
sides of campus. The center of the lawn is the campfire
circle. The north side of the campus includes five boys'
sleeping trailers, bathroom, showers, and a teacher
trailer. The south end accommodates the girls with 5
sleeping trailers, showers, bathroom, and two teacher trailers.
Four staff trailers, the maintenance shop, and storage trailers are
scattered around the outer boundaries of the campus.
