Thank You Letters
Dear Camp KEEP Staff,
I was a counselor at your camp last week. I am just writing to thank you guys for the wonderful experience. That was, without a doubt, the best week of my life and would not have been possible without all of your hard work and dedication. I cannot thank you enough for all the great experiences and memories I left with that were possible because of all of you. I loved it so much I would do it again in a heartbeat!
Thanks again!

Dear Camp KEEP
Thank you Camp KEEP for all that patience you had. And also for all that you taught us. I would like to thank Buffalo for those great songs. Otter for the adventure he took us on. I learned lots of stuff I did not even know. I learned about the Chumash tribes. My favorite part of camp was building the village. Everything here was great. Camp KEEP is always going to be in my heart.
Truly yours, Lerma B.

KEEP,
I learned a lot at camp like about Harbor Seals and how they teach their babies to do stuff like hunt, I think. And about how all life in the sea starts. Also that the sun is the energy source. I thought it was water for some reason. I got to see a lot of things like tidepool crabs, Harbor Seals, algae, and that you can eat Sea Lettuce. I also got to paint Otter's face. Cubby, thank you for teaching me how to be more positive than negative. Also that it takes more energy to frown than smile. He also took us to the beach and did a bunch of silly dances. They were pretty funny. Also we got to draw and make things along the beach.

Dear Camp KEEP Staff
I'd like to thank you for the good service you treated us with. You received us with pleasure. I hope you really enjoyed being with us because we enjoyed being with you. I just think when I grow up to be in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade that I want to visit the Kern Environmental Education Program. I've never had so much fun in all time. this will be one of the greatest things that have happened and it will always be. I will keep this memory for the rest of my life. Thanks for receiving with grace and I will be happy to think of this whole time.

Dear KEEP Staff,
I had a blast,
these days went by so fast.
I liked the Live Oak song,
I also liked ping-pong.
I liked the hike,
and the solo walk.
The hike would be better on a bike,
I also liked when we stopped to talk.
I had a great time,
living in a forest of pine,
Love, Noe R.

Dear KEEP,
Thank you everyone for taking us to see everything. I
really had a great time. The hikes, campfires, and much much more.
Everything was very interesting. I liked the tidepools, belly biology,
and the forest hike. The staff was so helpful and polite. I will keep
my wood cookie (name tag) to always remember Camp KEEP. I will
especially remember the night hike when I stepped in a mud puddle.
Thank you for everything. I think this was the best week I have ever
had. Thank you, I really appreciate what you guys and girls did. I hope
maybe someday when I get older, I can come back and visit.
Sincerely,
Maryna

Dear Camp KEEP
I had a lot of fun this week. I experienced a lot this week. I learned a lot of stuff that I never knew. I touched stuff that I never touched in the tidepools & at the beach. I had a blast. I will never forget this week in my life. I learned a lot in the three and a half mile hike. Now I know which one is poison oak and what was interesting was the ticks. I experienced a lot of nature during the hike. I loved the smell of the trees and especially seeing the birds of the day in real life around the forest, beach, meadows & estuaries. I had so much to all the KEEP naturalists. Especially the cooks. Your food was very good and delicious. I had a blast.
Thanks for this wonderful week. I had a blast!!!

Dear Superintendent Reider,
During the week of September 22nd – 26th, I had the opportunity to be a
parent counselor at KEEP Cambria Pines. I was very impressed with the
program and the staff at the camp. The staff were very enthusiastic.
They kept the children, not just busy with activities, but interested
and excited about the activities as well. They engaged the children in
the plant and animal life of the tidepools, forests, estuaries, and
beaches. They taught the children to approach new situations with “how
interesting” instead of “yuck, how disgusting”.
But what impressed me the most was how they dealt with individual kids.
Several of the kids had special challenges. These kids were treated in
a way that encouraged them to behave properly and explore the
environment fully. My daughter, Emily, was one of those kids. Emily has
moderate spastic cerebral palsy and is non-ambulatory. The staff,
teachers, and counselors went the extra mile to enable her to fully
participate in all
of the activities. They helped her get down to the tidepools so she
could see and feel the hermit crabs and sea anemones. They brought
other animals to her so she would not miss out on experiencing the
animals that lived closer to the water’s edge. They pushed her up and
down the mountain trails so she could see all of the different
ecosystems along the way. They planned ahead and brought a plastic
sheet so Emily could dig in the mudflats alongside the other kids.
Through their guidance, caring, and selfless giving, they gave Emily
the opportunity to explore non-accessible environments for herself.
This was a rare and unexpected gift that Emily will treasure for a
lifetime.
Thank you for funding the Camp KEEP program. It is a truly worthwhile investment in the lives of our children.
Sincerely,
Brenda Greenwood
